2012 Bluebonnet Pictures

Colin and his BFF Torin took pictures in the beautiful Texas bluebonnets.

Conversations with Colin

I've been feeling a bit "blogged out" lately. Reason being, I think that I spend all my spare time reading other people's blogs instead of working on my own. However, I wanted to post a few of my recent conversations with Colin. I love hearing his opinions and views of the world, his likes and dislikes and his overall curiosity to learn everything he possibly can in one day. Here are a few of my favorites: 1. "I don't want dinner, I just like ice cream." 2. "Beep, beep, here comes Colin!" (While pushing his Monster truck inches from my toes.) 3. "Monster, don't eat me!" (As Monster flea bites Colin's furry jacket.) 4. "I think I'm gonna frow up." (After reading his book in the car...first time feeling motion sick.) 5. "Dis is Colin, dis is Monster, dis is mama and dis is daddy." (Introducing us to our new neighbors.) 6. "Mama, you need a haircut. Daddy needs a haircut too. And Monster needs a haircut too. 7. "Daddy, my ears are NOT a snack." (Daddy likes to "nibble" his ears.) 8. "I want to drink a bottle, just like a baby." (Two and a half years old and still loves to drink out of bottles.) 9. "I need my friend, mama." (Awwwww.) 10. "Mama, I wuv you. All da time." (Double Awwww!!!)

Trike-A-Thon

Colin's class pushed the pedals this week for the St. Jude Trike-A-Thon. Colin was SO excited about taking his bike to school that we practiced "biking" all weekend. His class was the youngest class allowed to participate. It was so cute!

I don't know what is cuter - the goggles or the baby speedo. Colin takes his swimming seriously!

Fridge Worthy List

I just read the best post and wanted to share it and remember it as well. This is one mother's list of important things she says to her children. It's rare that a post makes me want to "hit print" and stick it up on the fridge to display. Thanks http://thematernallens.blogspot.com/2010/01/they-are-listening.html

Things we should say to our Children...

1. I love you! There is nothing that will make me stop loving you. Nothing you could do or say or think will ever change that.

2. You are amazing! I look at you with wonder! Not just at what you can do, but who you are. There is no one like you. No one!

3. It’s all right to cry. People cry for all kinds of reasons: when they are hurt, sad, glad, or worried; when they are angry, afraid, or lonely. Big people cry too. I do.

4. You’ve made a mistake. That was wrong. People make mistakes. I do. Is it something we can fix? What can we do? It’s all over. You can start fresh. I know you are sorry. I forgive you.

5. You did the right thing. That was scary or hard. Even though it wasn’t easy, you did it. I am proud of you; you should be too.

6. I’m sorry. Forgive me. I made a mistake.

7. You can change your mind. It’s good to decide, but it is also fine to change.

8. What a great idea! You were really thinking! How did you come up with that? Tell me more. Your mind is clever!

9. That was kind. You did something helpful and thoughtful for that person. That must make you feel good inside. Thank you!

10. I have a surprise for you. It’s not your birthday. It’s for no reason at all. Just a surprise, a little one, but a surprise.

11. I can wait. We have time. You don’t have to hurry this time.

12. What would you like to do? It’s your turn to pick. You have great ideas. It’s important to follow your special interests.

13. Tell me about it. I’d like to hear more. And then what happened? I’ll listen.

14. I’m right here. I won’t leave without saying good-bye. I am watching you. I am listening to you.

15. Please and Thank You. These are important words. If I forget to use them, will you remind me?

16. I missed you. I think about you when we are not together!

17. Just try. A little bit. One taste, one step. You might like it. Let’s see. I’ll help you if you need it. I think you can do it.

18. I’ll help you. I heard you call me, here I am. How can I help you? If we both work together, we can get this done. I know you can do it by yourself, but I’m glad to help since you asked.

19. What do you wish for? Even if it’s not yet time for birthday candles and we don’t have a wishbone, it’s still fun to hear about what you wish for, hope for, and dream about.

Colin's Happy Place

Colin and I play at Gorgeous Mille about 2-3 times a week - it's our little "home away from home." He can do all the messy art projects and sensory table activities that I'd rather not clean up at our house (paint, sand, play doh, shaving cream, ball pit, etc) and I can visit with other moms and sip coffee. It's the perfect happy place for me AND Colin!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today I woke Colin up, and I told him it was mommy's birthday. He said, "No, it's MY birthday." Hmmmm...someone wants to steal MY thunder (just a little bit.) LOL

It wasn't until mid morning (when he had heard several people tell me happy birthday) that he accepted it was indeed my birthday (not his).

One of the highlights of my day was Colin screaming, "Happy Birthday Mommy" followed by the biggest bear hug ever. It's the little things that can make your day special. And speaking of little things, this was my all time favorite birthday card...

The inside reads, "Pampering is your birthright! Thanks Ducky!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Green was the color of the day, so Colin took a green bath to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

Conversations with Colin

Last night at dinner Colin said, "I want Daddy's eye ball!"
David and I looked at each other and giggled...Colin wanted Daddy's "ipad."
Once we corrected him, Colin laughed right along with us. I love that he has a good sense of humor.

Here is more evidence of Colin's funny bone...

David: You didn't take a nap - you're a little stinker.
Colin: I'm not a stinker - just a little boy!
David: You are super cute Colin.

Splash!

What do you do on a rainy day? Well if you are like me, you cuddle up on the couch with a dog in your lap and watch a good movie until you doze off to sleep for a couple of hours.

But if you are like Colin, you put on your rain boots, run outside and jump in every muddy puddle that you see! Cousin Charlotte followed Colin's lead, and they entertained each other (and the entire family) until the sun set on their rainy day adventure.

Colin's shirt says, "I Play Dirty." Coincidence? Maybe.

And the grand finale...a double bubble bath...

Bedtime Negotiations

After Colin's bath and bedtime stories, this is our conversation (more like our negotiation):

Me: Time for bed.
Colin: I need my water.

Me: Okay, I'll get your cup. (He takes one sip.)
Me: Time for bed now.

Colin: I'm SO hungry mama.
Me: We can eat a big breakfast in the morning.

Colin: I'm SO hot mama.
Me: Okay, I'll turn the fan on.

Colin: I'm REALLY sick mama.
Me: If you're still sick in the morning, we will go to the doctor.

Colin: I NEED to rock for a little bit.
Me: Okay, just for a little bit.

Colin: I NEED hugs mama.
Me: Hugs and kisses for Colin!!!

Colin: I NEED daddy's hugs.
Me: I call for David and he comes upstairs for hugs and kisses.

Colin: I WANT my puppy.
Me: Monster is in bed. We are ALL going to be now.

I go downstairs and turn on the monitor. Sometimes I hear him repeat these things to himself until he falls asleep. It's so hard not to run back into his room when he's calling for "mama's hugs." But one thing is for sure, Colin is definitely mastered the "stall technique."

Kids Cook

Kids Cook by Barbara Berry is a fantastic shop where kids can drop-in to create and decorate special treats. We took Colin this weekend and he "ate up" the entire experience - from decorating his mini chef's hat to dropping skittles on his smurf blue cupcake.

Summer in February?

It's been unusually warm in ATX lately - 86 degrees today! Colin and I have been living outside: gardening, building sand castles, and visiting nearly every park and playground in the city.

I taught Colin how to make a wish by blowing the seeds off the dandelions. He thought this was pretty fun and we must have made over 100 wishes. What does a two and a half year old wish for? Toys, lollipops and chocolate to be exact!

Made me Smile

I have to share something that absolutely brightened my day today.

As I was putting on Colin's shoes this morning he turned around and gave me a big hug. I said, " I love you Colin." He then replied, "Luv you back, mama." Ahhhhhhh, it was the sweetest thing I've ever heard!

NY, NY

It was time for a girls trip - I haven't had one of those in quite a while (well in 2.5 years to be exact)!!! Lately I've felt like my position as a toddler mommmy leaves little to no room for "me time"...manicures, happy hours, vacations, etc.

However, I was finally mentally ready to take a trip and leave Colin in the capable and loving hands of dad. So my sister, mom, grandmother and I hit the streets of New York to see and do everything we could pack into a three day trip.

That's right, three days to spend with three generations of women in my family! How rare is that? And let it be known that having my grandmother (who will turn 90 this year) on the busy streets of Manhattan did NOT slow us down one bit. In fact, I had to keep up with HER most of the time.

One night in particular we found ourselves at McDonalds in Times Square at 1 am. I was starting to feel the fatigue set in...my back, legs and shoulders ached after walking ALL day from lower to upper Manhattan. After finishing our cheeseburgers, my grandmother said, "Well, what shall we do next?" This comment immediately gave us all a renewed sense of energy. At least enough energy to catch a cab to get back to the hotel. :)
